How does Multifactor Authentication (MFA) work?

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application, online account, or a VPN. MFA is a core component of a strong identity and access management (IAM) policy.

Time-Based One Time Password

Time Based One Time Password (TOTP) is a one time password that is only useable for 30-60 seconds. This can be done using a smartphone app. VCCS policy states that students logging into MyMECC must configure MFA to verify your identity during the login process.
