Unexpected Financial Emergency Assistance

This program is designed to help students stay in college when faced with an unforeseen financial emergency. Through this program, students may receive financial assistance to get them through their emergency.  Eligible students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0, not be a first semester student, and be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.  In order to determine eligibility and if need meets approved criteria, students seeking assistance should contact Student Services at 276-523-9107 or Student Services Suite of Holton Hall.

Student Conduct

The general philosophy of Mountain Empire Community College in the area of student conduct is based upon the concept that students are adults and should enjoy the rights and responsibilities of adult citizenship. Accordingly, the State Board for Community Colleges and Mountain Empire Community College have established regulations that are essential to the protection of freedom, life, and property of all members of the campus community.

College Attainment for Parent Students(CAPS)

The College Attainment for Parent Students (CAPS) program is an initiative developed by the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education to improve educational and economic outcomes for parent students across Virginia's community colleges.

CAPS provides financial assistance, mentorship, academic support and linkage to key resources, tailored to the unique needs of parenting students. CAPS not only helps students achieve their academic goals, but it also strengthens the socio-economic fabric in our communities by removing barriers to basic needs support.

Sign up for MECC CAPS and receive information and communication regarding programming and resources for MECC’s student parents. Contact Christina Fraley at cfraley@mecc.edu or 276-523-9030 for more information.
