Big Stone Gap – Mountain Empire Community College is offering a host of music and instrument instruction courses this spring.
The MECC campus offers day classes in beginning lead guitar. Night class offerings at the Big Stone Gap campus include: Recording Systems Services, Internship in Recording, Beginning Fiddle, Beginning Clawhammer Banjo, Beginning Mandolin, Beginning Rhythm Guitar, Intermediate Lead Guitar, Blues Guitar, 3-Finger Picking Banjo, Old Time String Band, Gospel Jam, Percussion Ensemble, Intermediate Percussion Ensemble, Advanced Percussion Ensemble, Introduction to Lyric Writing and Music & Musicians of Central Appalachia.
Several evening courses in old-time music will be offered exclusively at Gate City High School including Old Time String Band and Beginning Upright Bass on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
Online classes in Music Appreciation and the Music and Musician of Central Appalachia are also available.

MECC Offers Old Time Dance Class
Big Stone Gap – Mountain Empire Community College will offer PED 195 Old Time Dance on Monday’s from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This course will cover basic styles of traditional dance from the central and southern Appalachian region. Classes will provide an overview of solo and group dancing history, accompanied by instruction and performance of each dance. The instructor is Tyler Hughes.
