MECC Foundation to Honor Ida Bonicelli Trigiani at Annual Gala

Ida TrigianiBIG STONE GAP, VA – The Mountain Empire Community College Foundation will induct Mrs. Ida Bonicelli Trigiani into its Hall of Honor at the 2014 Spring Gala to be held on campus Saturday, May 10, at 6 p.m.
The 2014 gala theme is “Una Bella Notte,” the Italian phrase meaning “A Beautiful Night.” The evening will begin with a reception in the Slemp Commons of Phillips-Taylor Hall at 6 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner in the Goodloe Center at 6:45 p.m.
Hall of Honor Inductee, Ida Bonicelli Trigiani, will be recognized for her years of dedicated service on the MECC Foundation’s Gala Committee, as well as her service to the community. In recognition of her work as a librarian at the University of Notre Dame and her great love of books, proceeds from the Gala will benefit the Ida Bonicelli Trigiani Book Fund, a new endowed scholarship to assist students with the cost of purchasing books and other materials to support their classwork.
Mrs. Trigiani has been an active member of the cultural and business community of Big Stone Gap for many years. She and her husband, Anthony, were among the founders of the Lonesome Pine Community Concert Association, which brought world class musical programming to the region for 25 years. She is a member and past officer of the Dogwood Garden Club, achieved the designation of Master Gardener. She has served as a flower show judge and as an officer in the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs. She was also a member of the Wise County Clean Committee and owned and operated two small businesses. She has served on numerous committees to benefit the community. Fellow committee members affirm she was a loyal and dedicated volunteer.
Mrs. Trigiani is the daughter of Italian immigrants, the mother of seven children, all of whom were educated in the Wise County public schools, graduating from Powell Valley High School. The Trigiani family has long advocated a focus on education, particularly the opportunities offered by MECC and other colleges within the Virginia Community College system. They are pleased and humbled that the MECC Foundation has chosen to honor their mother in this way.
