BIG STONE GAP – Mountain Empire Community College will offer a professional development opportunity for regional K-12 educators focusing on integrating the musical traditions of the region into curriculum.
The course, titled “Teaching on the Crooked Road,” will examine the region’s history, musical styles, musicians and geographical venues. Instructional techniques will include storytelling, demonstration, audio and visual presentations and field trips. Teachers and others who complete the course will gain insight into bringing traditional music into their teaching through integration with Virginia SOLs and will have the opportunity to develop lesson plans for their classrooms.
This three-credit hour course will be offered on campus and will be delivered via an interactive video system. For more information, contact the MECC Workforce Development Center at (423) 523-7489 or email email@example.com.
