ShamiltonDr. James Scott Hamilton

Dr. Scott Hamilton grew up in the small town of Pinckneyville, IL, located in the heart of the coal mining region of Southern Illinois. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Education in 1975.

Dr. Hamilton worked in the mining industry and business until 1983 when he began his career in education, teaching industrial technology at a small high school in Southern Illinois. He completed his Master’s Degree in Occupational Education Administration at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale in 1988. Dr. Hamilton served as the Director of two different Regional Vocational Systems and a high school vocational center in Illinois before moving to Southeastern Illinois Community College as Dean of the Technical Programs. He then served as the Dean of Business and Applied Technologies at John A. Logan College in Carterville, IL.

Dr. Hamilton entered the Community College Executive Leadership program and completed his Doctorate of Education at the University of Illinois- Urbana/Champaign in 2007. Prior to coming to Mountain Empire Community College Dr. Hamilton was the Dean of Instruction at Eastern Idaho Technical College in Idaho Falls, ID.

Dr. Hamilton and his wife Marie currently reside in Lee Co. Va. near the community of Stickleyville. They have two daughters, Megan and Katie who both reside in Murray, KY. When he is not busy with college activities, Dr. Hamilton and Marie enjoy the wide variety of outdoor activities available to them in beautiful Southwestern Virginia.
