Mountain Empire Community College and the Rwandan Embassy are working together to increase educational opportunities for Rwandan citizens in collaboration with the NASA DEVELOP Wise program.
Rwandan Ambassador James Kimonyo and several Rwandan delegates visited the Mountain Empire Community College campus on Monday, February 25 to tour facilitates and learn more about programs offered by MECC on-site and online.
Kimonyo and MECC President Dr. Scott Hamilton signed a letter of intent to explore the possibilities of expanding academic and career training offerings for Rwandan citizens. A similar agreement was also signed by UVa-Wise Provost Sanders Huguenin during a special ceremony at the UVA-Wise campus.
A partnership between the Embassy of Rwanda and DEVELOP began in the summer of 2012 when presidential scholars from Rwanda and US students worked together to utilize NASA remote sensing technology to address environmental issues facing the country. MECC offers coursework in Geographic Information Systems in partnership with the NASA DEVELOP Wise program.
