Administrative Office Specialist II
part-time, 20 hours per week, $9.65 per hour, position number WA009, in the Division of Health Science & Industrial Technology. Experience in the following areas is required: knowledge of office practices and procedures, proficient computer skills to include in-depth experience with Microsoft Word (word processing) and Excel (spreadsheet) software, excellent telephone and interpersonal skills, ability and confidence to compose correspondence, and to interpret and follow oral and written instructions with minimal supervision.

Some duties include: create addenda; obtain enrollment authorizations and schedule classes for the Dual Enrollment Program; purchase supplies, etc. through eVA; create textbook orders on a semester basis; compile, process, and monitor student opinion surveys semi-annually; schedule classes through PeopleSoft; maintain course outline and syllabi files for the division; and make travel arrangements for faculty. Previous office experience is preferred.

Administrative Office Specialist II
Part-time position in the Center for Workforce Development, 25 hours per week, $9.65 per hour, position number WA002. Requirements: high school diploma, excellent oral and written communications skills, basic computer knowledge and experience, knowledge of office practices and procedures. Knowledge of Microsoft software is preferred. Duties: register non-credit students and process payments; prepare classroom materials and forms; answer telephone and give information regarding class offerings; assist with physical arrangements for classes; order/pick up supplies; prepare flyers/brochures and other marketing materials; filing course materials; other duties as assigned.

English Faculty
Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for a 9 month faculty position in English available August 16, 2008, position number F0046. Minimum of a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in English is required. Additional graduate study and teaching experience are required for appointment beyond the Instructor level. Some graduate study in composition and rhetoric theory or methodology is preferred. Experience teaching developmental English and composition or in teaching at-risk students is preferred. Applicants should have a strong interest in applications of technology to include delivery of instruction by distance education, the application of computers to writing instruction, and the application of active/collaborative learning and learning communities. Applicants should be committed to a philosophy of a comprehensive community college. Rank is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Salary range $40,061-$63,897.

Mountain Empire Community College, one of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s 23 comprehensive community colleges, serves the counties of Dickenson, Lee, Scott, Wise, and the City of Norton. Mountain Empire Community College, a member of the Virginia Community College System, is located in rural southwestern Virginia approximately 40 miles northwest of Kingsport, Tennessee, on U.S. Highway 23.
