MECC Offers 2018 Trip to Japan, Eastern Europe

Big Stone Gap, VA – Mountain Empire Community College will host two international education travel opportunities for students and the public in the spring of 2018. The trips include an Eastern Europe tour in May 2018 and a Japan tour in June 2018.

Explore the intoxicatingly upbeat Eastern Europe on a 12-day whirlwind tour with stops in Budapest, Hungary; Krakow, Poland; Prague, Czech Republic; and Vienna, Austria. Visit fortified castles, breathtaking scenery, and humbling stops like Auschwitz and Krakow’s Jewish Quarter. Eastern Europe offers thrills and history unfiltered.

Japan is a microcosm of civilization at heart. This 11-day tour will feature stops in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Hakone. Discover a polite order to urbanization that is defined by the ancient world that remains, a seamless blending of cutting-edge technology and preserved history. Visit historic, religious, and natural monuments on this amazing, once-in-a-lifetime journey.

Both tours will be led by MECC faculty members. Current MECC students who have completed at least 12 credit hours and have maintained a 3.0 GPA are eligible for a $1,000 scholarship toward travel expenses. Current MECC students who reside in Dickenson County may be eligible for an additional scholarship.
